It was shopping in a stand against violence.
We hosted our first-ever all women’s market, called SHEporium at Gallery 788 in Hampden, Friday, April 24. It was to raise awareness of sexual assault and help raise money for local non-profit organization Phynyx Ministries.
It featured a diverse selection of female vendors, including Pickle & Tongue, Knits, Soy & Metal, Doubledutch Boutique, Fly Nerd by Mimidre, Hiza Leather Bags, Bottle of Bread, Style-House, Twigs & Wool, Keeper’s Vintage, Dana Southerland, 3Clothing, Red Prairie Press, Milk & Ice Vintage, Linden Heights Ave., and Brightside Boutique. Well-known vintage bus Go-Go’s Retread Threads also participated, stationed right outside the gallery space.

These female-owned businesses sold new, boutique, handmade, and vintage goods starting at 30% off to shoppers. Some lucky SHEporium goers even won prizes from some of Baltimore’s established and upcoming male-owned businesses, in support of the all female event. They included For Rent Shoes, Sixteen Tons, Creative King LLC, SewLab USA, and This Sporting Life.
Plus, everyone enjoyed complimentary treats from La Cakerie.
With tickets at $5 each, a portion of the proceeds went to Phynyx Ministries, a local non-profit organization that provides a pathway of healing for female sexual assault survivors.

As a two-time sexual assault survivor, Angela D. Wharton, founded Phynyx Ministries in 2011 to reach out to other survivors and provide resources, hope, and a safe place for them to heal. The Baltimore native makes strides in giving back to her community by engaging with members of the community and the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office. Wharton is the author of Life After the Silence: From Pain to Power to Purpose, which is on sale now.
